Mod Pay January 16 - January 31
Mod Pay
Hi mods, please list what you've done between the January 16th and January 31st period to receive your mod pay! List permanent posts and then games, and don't forget to include what you've covered for someone else if you've done any of that~

Deckmaking
Deck makers, please have your decks in by the end of February 3rd, my time (GMT -8). Can someone tell me who's making Seto Kaiba's deck? I have no idea who has it anymore. XD;; I'll check in with you all again after the deck donation deadline passes in case we have any more donations to distribute among deck makers, and you can tell me at that time if you have any plans for more decks (not from donations). There is no limit. I just ask that whatever you list, you must be positive that you can have it made by the 3rd. :3 (Browsing Advent Calendar day 3 is an awesome way to see what people might want to see for decks!)

Card List
Okay, so I am super bad with PHP and have not figured out how to use any TCG managers. ^^;; I've pretty much given up on it and don't really want to switch anymore at this point (since we already have 700+ decks). I've gotten suggestions about sorting decks by color, and I think this is a great suggestion, except I won't be able to manage 8 separate deck lists. I figure since we have plenty of mods and players, I can ask for help with managing manual deck lists since they only need to be updated with each release, meaning once a month. But before we get into that, I want to know, how do you want your decks displayed? What do you think of the current deck list, and do you feel there's a better way of displaying the decks? I thought maybe decks by series would be nice, but I also think the secondary deck list already does that well enough.

Decks by color would either have to be like the first card list, except it'd only have decks from that color displayed, or I could display all of the 1st card of each deck from that color (without listing the series or the characters), OR I could possibly combine the two somehow, but I'm not sure how that might look. If you have any suggestions for how the card list should look, let me know!

edit: possible ideas
edit2: added a third example with fluid tables! I think my preference at the moment is...

Ace Attorney (try 2) / Red (try 1) -> These will be easy to maintain because they're just like the other deck lists. We'll only need to copy and paste, and the info is pretty clear. You can either choose to browse the decks in list form or in image form.

Ace Attorney (try 1) - > Having the image next to the other info makes it easier to connect the character and their appearance. It's a little different from the current deck list formats, but not too much so it won't be too hard to maintain, but this doesn't work too well for sorting by color (because we'd have to make separate sections for each series).

Ace Attorney (try 3) - > This uses fluid tables and is very hard to maintain because the coding is completely different. XD; But, what do you all think? How does it look? =x

If you have other ideas, please let me know!

edit3, haha: Maybe Ace Attorney try 1 for series, and the Red one as it is for decks by color?

EDIT4: I'm experimenting some more with the first way for displaying series, but the site is down at the moment, so I'll have to play around with it some more later!

edit a million: We'll have a sort by color list this month for now! :3

My problem with the first one is the blank space. And which to link, the deck name or the image. Currently, I have both the deck name and the image linked to the card pages, but that seems a little redundant.

As for a sort by color one, the first style probably wouldn't work too well since it'd get very, very long! But for a sort by series page, it should be fine.

I was actually thinking the opposite since the disconnect between the image and the names isn't quite as bad when you can still see them on the same screen like you would with the series list but I feel like it would be awkward with a longer list since then you'd have to scroll up and down between the image and the character names (if you don't feel like clicking on new pages). Though I also see what you mean by the excessive white space...

As for the linking if you have the card there next to it is having the name there too really necessary, since the deck name is on the card? And if you keep them separate then I think it'd be best to have them both linked.

Hm, well, series pages won't ever get that long for it to be necessary to scroll up and down? It might require some scrolling with the first method because of the spacing though. I didn't want to make two separate pages with a list form and an image form, so that's why they're both on the same page for the second way (the images are there for people who want to see how the character looks like...). Having the cards right next to the names does allow easier connection between the character and the deck, I suppose! I really want to do something about that spacing though.

Mm, I included the deck name since I find images useless if I know the deck name and want to search for the deck by CTRL + F. Can't do that with images! Though I guess this function isn't too necessary with a series page since they'll all be fairly short. (Most is 23 decks at the moment)

I actually wasn't thinking about series pages at first though. XD; What do you think of the deck by colors page? I don't think displaying that one with the first method (for the series one) would look too good because it'd get very, very long. I could slap the images on a separate page if you think it looks weird at the bottom.

I somehow completely forgot about CTRL+F usage (though I use it myself all the time).

I think for series have the images separated would be fine since the lists are smaller.

For the color list, if you do it the first ways a little more white space would be taken up by text since that would require series, character name, & deck name. Though I still can't figure out any solution to the long length we'd get. Hmm... I wonder if we'd be able to find code that would change the deck name into the deck picture when it was scrolled over...

CTRL + F is so useful. I use it a lot!

Hm, I actually think there wouldn't be enough room for images if the series name was still in the same row for a colors list. The white space I mean is the spacing underneath the text (since the images space the rows a whole lot). I was wondering if there was some way to display the character name above the image instead, but that would require fluid tables like what I did for Twist Serve. I could perhaps try that out again.

Well the longer the series and character names are the less white space will be underneath them since they then take up multiple lines (like the Gergo deck's character name on the current list).

The way you did the TwistServe tables would be a good way to do the individual color list too.
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on February 1st, 2011 02:32 am (UTC)
That's true! There are some longer character names that kind of break the current tables. XD;

I'll throw up another example later today with fluid tables to see how that looks!
[identity profile] moon-wolfwriter.livejournal.com on February 1st, 2011 03:45 am (UTC)
Took a look at the fluid table one and I was wondering what it'd look like to add another row for the Series name as well to be used for the color specific tables? Maybe move the character name into the box above the picture and have the series in the row spot(or vice-verse)?
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on February 1st, 2011 04:06 am (UTC)
I tried it out! How does it look? (It's in the same link)

I made another row for the deck name, but that looked totally funky, so I took that out.
[identity profile] moon-wolfwriter.livejournal.com on February 1st, 2011 04:50 am (UTC)
Hmmm... I think if the Series names were bolded to just make them stand out a bit more it would look good. ^__^
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on February 1st, 2011 05:13 am (UTC)
Oo, yeah, bold font would help. XD
