Colors League (name subject to change) Event - planning
Lucathia said she is okay with it and leaves the planning to us so here we go.

A few days ago this special event idea was proposed in the Skype chat. It is nowhere as long as the Anniversary event, of course and does not come with limited edition special deck. I forwarded what we came up to Lucathia and she liked it so now we are sharing it with everyone here.

Basically it would be dividing players into teams. Players will then participate in event games and win normal prizes for themselves but also accumulate points for their team. After the event players from teams with most points get additional prizes.

Firstly, we would have a signing up period (1-2 weeks) where players would just comment on the post saying that they want to participate. After this, everyone will be randomly assigned a team named after one of Colors Universe characters, so we'd have Akai-san's Red Team, Midorin's Green Team etc. Of course, while being random, the teams would have to be more or less even for the whole event to be fair.

For latecomers, they would still be able to join in during the event and be assigned a team, since we probably wouldn't be able to even out the teams perfectly.

Each team would be assigned a mod. (Skie already claimed Team Midorin |D;;) These mods would then post games (probably all being the screened answer type, due to nature of this event) and as addition to usual small rewards for answering, for every correct answer of their member, a team would get one point. At the end of the event all points would be added up, the teams ranked from best performance to worst and all team members get prizes according to their team rank. For example if Zags was a member of Team Tobi that placed 3rd, he would receive, in addition to prizes for the games he played throughout the event, five cards and one crayon (example prize)

In addition, to encourage member activity during the event, there would be a number of "extra" cards team members could add to their team's final prize. It would be done by completing tasks such as:

- submitting fanart/fanfic (of a team's character maybe?)
- portfolio completion
- 5 decks mastered in one comment
- 30 trades

All would have to be completed and logged during the event to count. Each one of these tasks would be won one extra card for every team member and could only be won once per team. For example if Zags completed a portfolio during the event, all members of Team Tobi would get five cards and one crayon (example prize) + one extra card at the end. However, if another person from Team Tobi completes a portfolio during the event, their team wouldn't get another extra card. Also, for the bonuses to count, one player can only complete one task, meaning that if Zags got that one card bonus from his team for completing a portfolio, even if he mastered 5 decks, it wouldn't activate the bonus, someone else from the brown team would have to do it.

Later in the chat we proposed the base rewards for the event to be like this:

1st place - 6 cards, 2 crayons
2nd place - 6 cards, 1 crayon
3rd place - 6 cards
4rd place - 5 cards
5th place - 4 cards
6th place - 3 cards
7th place - 2 cards
8th place - 1 card

+ any extras won by members for their team.

To avoid overlapping with the Halloween event Lucathia mentioned, we were thinking of giving the event one week long signup time and then starting the actual event on September 1st.

What still needs to be done is for mods to claim teams they would be leading. Games would run in the standard order, from the Red Team captain to Grey Team captain.

Team Akai-san - Lucathia
Team Mikan-tan - ???
Team Kou-kun - Remus
Team Midori~n - Skie
Team Aoi-sama - Moon
Team Murasaki-dono - Aru
Team Tobi-han - Zags
Team Gin-sensei - Aisu

If you have any questions, suggestions, thought up a better name for the event, please say so! Oh and just clarifying - all games are open to everyone, regardless of which team they are in, it's nothing like ALL ZAGS GAMES ARE BELONG TO BROWN TEAM ONLY.

Thank you for reading through this wall of text!

I hope the plaryes are mature enough not to behave this way D: after all it's not like players don't get anything if their team doesn't win...

This looks really cool. Can I claim Team Aoi-sama?

What kind of games did you have in mind for the event?
aru: [[tenipuri]] ► i have ann icon[personal profile] magaru on August 19th, 2011 01:01 am (UTC)
Special versions of normal games will do, unless you have an idea for something else? It would probably be best to be something based on answering a question and posting the answer in a screened comment, since discussion based games would not really work well for earning points.

*adds you as Team Aoi leader, runs away for not adding -sama*

I rather like the idea of the games for this event just being special versions of our current games. It leaves the option for those who don't feel like participating in a team-based competition to still participate in the games and get their cards as usual.

There could be like, a base points award for just participating in the game, and then maybe one or two special conditions that earn them more points if they complete them.

What special conditions do you have in mind? I was thinking that getting the answer right = one point for a team but if you have thought of something else then please tell~
[identity profile] 00zags.livejournal.com on August 19th, 2011 05:23 pm (UTC)
well it's like, just for a normal round of the game, you get a point, but then special conditions depend on the game... like I was thinking for Crazy Colors to have another mystery bonus and whoever gets it will earn extra points for their team.

Or say for like, Coloring Book, if you post the last item needed to fill a bucket, you get additional points for your team. Stuff like that.

Everyone involved, please express your opinion on the following matter - do you think it would work better to have the mods who lead teams post separate event games (like the Days during the Anniversary event) or just post rounds our usual games and incorporate point-earning into them.

Personally I prefer the first option as it gives us the chance to carry out the games in Red >>> Gray order as well as lets us make sure that all people who replied are indeed event participants which would be useful when counting points. It would probably get quite messy, even if there was a note for event participants to specify that they have signed up for the event and what team they are in.
To add to it, most of us run multiple games and since it would make most sense to only include one game from each mod in the event (for simplicity purposes: 8 teams, 8 mods, 8 games and also it would be a little unfair for (example) Team Akai to be one member short for 10 games due to their captain posting them while the mod in charge of Team Mikan has only one game and has more chances to score points for their team). Even if we included notes like "THIS GAME COUNTS FOR THE EVENT" "THIS GAME DOES NOT" I guess it would be quite confusing for players.
There's also the thing that since the rewards for the event itself are quite big already (if the team that ranks 1st unlocks all four bonuses, all members would win 10 cards and two crayons, which is a lot, even though it would be very hard for a team to unlock all bonuses), I thought that the event games themselves should be simple question-answer type with max. 2 cards as a reward. I don't think games like Pick a Color or Beauty Pageant would work well for this type of event, since counting the points would be more inconvenient then and I was aiming for the most effective system.
Also, there's the fact that not all games end at the same time. If we used normal game rounds, we'd have to wait for all of them to end before we could calculate the results. This is not a problem for games posted separately for the event, since all would just be open till the end of the event when all event games would close simultaneously, say, a week after the last game is posted to give people time to answer all eight.

However, as pointed out by Zags, having to come up with and post additional games would put more pressure on the moderators and would require more organizing.

What do you think? (I don't want it to look like I'm ignoring Zags' point of view, I just used the oportunity to explain mine and Zags is the best person to explain his own idea after all)
[identity profile] 00zags.livejournal.com on August 19th, 2011 06:57 pm (UTC)
well you could always have those players who are participating in the event include their team in their answer comment
aru: [[bakuman]] ► akito manga[personal profile] magaru on August 20th, 2011 09:46 am (UTC)
I don't think it would work for reasons explained in my previous comment
[identity profile] moon-wolfwriter.livejournal.com on August 21st, 2011 09:37 pm (UTC)
I don't really mind either using existing rounds or posting different ones.

The benefit of using rounds that would already be posting would be as you said less work for the mods to come up with something. It would also serve the purpose of encouraging more people to answer regular game rounds and limiting the prizes. The round length shouldn't be a problem since most, if not all, the games should be weekly games. So any game posted by the 22nd would technically end in time, giving us 3 weeks to post games. The downside would be if we wanted to keep all the games open through out the entire event/longer than the week that they're usually open.

For the side of posting separate games purely for the event. The positive side would be being able to control when they're posted and when they end and we'd be able to give them different names so everyone can be sure to know which games are for the event or not. And the additional prizes, if someone answers all of them, would only be 16 cards which if they added the final top prize would be 26 cards. Which isn't that large comparably. (The anniversary event gave out around 60 cards via the events[roughly 3 cards per post] plus 20ish cards if someone turned in the anniversary deck)

I think players should include their team no matter which is used since it would be useful in counting points(kinda like we had them include links to their prize thread in the anniversary event). And I like the idea of 8 games, one per mod. If any mods don't have games that would work I'll offer one of mine for them to "borrow" for the event since I think I have three that would work (Shadow watching, Art Lesson, and Ryoga's Directions)
lucathia: fishbones: red[personal profile] lucathia on August 25th, 2011 01:17 am (UTC)
I can lead a team if I'm only required to post a game or two, but I don't think I'll have time to tally up points for the team. How will points be tallied? Do the mods who post certain games tally up what points players earned from their game? And where will players who accomplish the extra tasks go to tell everyone they accomplished the task?

I'm thinking it'll be quite hard to figure out whose on what team when we're trying to tally the points...

In any case, this is a fun idea. I would love to see it work, and I think it's great to have team things going on. I'd love to see some sort of team game that would require teammates to work together, since there are teams and all, but team games are hard to think of...
aru: [[utena]] ► bloody petals[personal profile] magaru on August 25th, 2011 08:31 am (UTC)
If you took a team, you would only have to post one simple game. Your team would be one member short since your don't answer screened games... but I guess that you could just make a post with all answers in the mod comm once the last game closes.
Participants would probably have to include what team they are from in their reply, or even better, in the subject line of their comments so it would be easier to tally. If in the end someone doesn't have time to do it, I don't mind taking care of it once comments are unscreened. My classes don't start until October.
I was thinking of setting up an event achievement post that will go up on the first day with 8 threads in the comments, each for every team. Players would then report unlocking the bonuses there. It would make it easy to see what team has accomplished what.

The sign up can start once we find a mod to lead the last team and when that little misunderstanding I had with Zags above is settled. (I'd love it if you could state your opinion since I don't want to push my ideas on anyone without listening to tem first
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on August 25th, 2011 08:50 am (UTC)
I'll take team Akai then! I should be able to post a game or two. I suppose we can make sure to place one more person on team Akai if there are uneven numbers since I can't answer screened games? :)

It makes sense to have participates label the subject with their team. It would be easiest probably to have separate games from our normal ones to better help us keep track of points. I imagine trying to keep track of points for all of our games during September would be a bit harder to manage. We'd have to make clear which games don't count, and then we'd have participants and non-participants of the event answering, and maybe even people forgetting to include their team name (in which case they'd just not get points if we went the general game route). But I think it's possible to adapt our current games for a special round if we wanted to do that. Also, games have been receiving less participation. I don't think more games is the answer to that, but perhaps this team aspect will help.

An event achievement post sounds like it'll work well.
aru: [[colors universe]] ► murasaki-dono[personal profile] magaru on August 25th, 2011 08:27 pm (UTC)
You can always answer screened games the way I described in my previous comment :D

Yeah, I think it would be overall easier to just post separate games for the event because even if we save some effort on coming up with them, there would be thrice as much effort on organizing, adapting at stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] darkraven616 said he would be interested in running an unofficial initative based on this event if it's received well so if people are interested, this might be one of the ways to give the games more participation... Players seem to like unofficial shiny things for display in card posts :D

Okay, so now we only need someone to take care of Team Mikan and the sign up can start anytime. Shall I be the one posting this?
lucathia: fishbones: red[personal profile] lucathia on August 25th, 2011 09:46 pm (UTC)
If you can take care of the sign ups, that'd be great~

Colors League
Hey Aru,

I got your PM, and my god this event sounds awesommmme. *_* Of course I'll help out~ Most of the time for me, I have all my free time on Sundays (no private tutoring, work, school or anything... except maybe homework lol), so I was planning on catching up with EVERYTHING today. So yes, please sign me up. I read the post but I'll go down and read the comments so I can get a feel of what it is we have to do. XD;;

Thanks a bunch.

Thank you! You'll be leading Team Mikan then. And since all team leader slots are filled, the sign up period can finally start :D
