Mod Pay July 1 - July 15
Hi mods! Please comment with what you've done between the July 1 to July 15 period to receive your mod pay. Please comment with permanent posts first and then games, and let me know if you've covered for anyone!

Also let me know if anything has changed hands, or if any games have changed days of the week~.

During our Anniversary event, there were two suggestions that I thought would be quite helpful and perhaps necessary. One is finding a way to help newer players out, and another is coming up with other ways of earning the chance to donate a special deck, perhaps a limited number that would still keep our special decks at a much smaller number than character decks but would allow for more than just Scrapbook decks being released each month. My thoughts were as follows!

1) Helping newer players out -> Maybe a series of newbie games that introduce players to various aspects of the TCG (a "welcome party" hosted by the Colors characters?) that would be open indefinitely. They would be playable by players that have joined for less than two months or have less than 200 cards. Players can comment with a link to the card post, and we'd drop rewards there. Something like that... or perhaps we want to design games that don't require us to pass out rewards since we'd have to tend to them indefinitely... And perhaps we can allow all players to play the games. They'll just be open forever so that people who join later can still play them to boost their trade pile. Let me know your thoughts!

2) Other ways of donating a special deck -> I really want to run some kind of shopping street hosted by the Colors characters (that'd happen only once a while), and donating a special deck could be one of the things that can be bought! Or, we could have some kind of special deck idea pool (probably only during months where we can't already earn special decks another way)? I remember this was suggested by someone before. Perhaps we can have people toss in special deck ideas, and then I'll randomize them so we get 5 or so random ideas. Or less if that's too much. Or, (perhaps this can be done at the same time), we can have people vote on suggested ideas, with the most popular ones made. I would like the random idea to be involved too so that less popular ideas also get a chance!

There were also some suggestions for special round ideas for our current games, so browsing Day 14 should be helpful. :D

Three game rounds posted up, but the most recent has a week until it ends? I'm not sure if it counts or not, and if it does, would I have to list it again next time, since I'll be handing out cards in the pay next period... Might I ask your opinion? ;A;

I currently have mods listing games by the date that they're posted, so you don't have to list it again next time. It's easier for me to check by day posted with the time stamp. :3;;

Extra
Coded card3.php for the release

Now onto other points

1) I like the idea of having a new player "game" to help the newer members gain cards. Maybe something can be a mini quiz to get them used to all the things around the community and it can double as a way to make sure they understand how things work. Questions like "how many decks are you allowed to have premastered when you apply for a portfolio?", "how many trades would you have to make to fill a sketchpad?", or "what is mikan-tan's favorite fruit?". As long as they leave a link to their card posts I think the mod who's watching over it can just drop off the prizes. I don't think it'd be anymore work than any of our other permanent posts anyway.

2)I like the idea of a special deck pool. Maybe suggestions can be made for decks during the first week of a month. Then there can be an open poll(everyone can vote for all the suggestions they like with check boxes instead of radio boxes). The top 1(or two) decks will be sure to made. Then the rest can go into a randomizer. I'm not sure how you'd randomize it but if you could manage to work it like a raffle type thing where every vote a deck got in the poll(or every 5/10 depending on how many people vote) another "ticket" with that suggestion got placed into the randomizer that would make it so there's better odd for the more popular ideas but with a chance that a less popular idea will be chosen as well. (If that makes any sense at all)

Thank you for the portfolios and the games! :) And for helping with coding card3 again!

lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on July 19th, 2011 12:45 pm (UTC)
1) A mini quiz type of game sounds like a good plan! Those are great example questions. I don't want to suddenly spring a bunch of permanent posts though, so I wonder if it'd be too much for one person to take care of this new player game thing. Perhaps there could be a quiz (all in one post) as well as some of the other ideas that don't need to be in the same post.

2) Hm, I'm not sure if I can randomize it that way. XD; But I understand what you mean! And allowing suggestions to be made during the first week of the month sounds like a good plan.

Thanks for the suggestions. :)
[identity profile] moon-wolfwriter.livejournal.com on July 19th, 2011 01:59 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the cards. *stares at both kansai11s sitting next to each other* I hope someone needs those ^-^

1) I wouldn't think it'd be too busy if it was just for new players. At least not after the initial rush of all those who qualify after it's posted. I don't see a problem in putting them all together in one post. And that way people will be more likely to do them all at once making even less work for the mod in charge to do.

2) To randomize the suggestions, if your doing a randomizer like the card randomizers, instead of putting like "1st suggestion" three times you can put "1st suggestion 1", "1st suggestion 2" & "1st suggestion 3".

GAMES:
Crosswords 27 (http://colors-tcg.livejournal.com/280776.html)

I know that Kuri is going on hiatus and that Art Studio hasn't been covered by anyone yet? If no one else does soon, I can try to cover it. :3

1) I like this idea and was thinking about doing something like it for Crosswords 30, but having a series of games is much more fun. :D Know it's rather overwhelming sometimes when you first join and you spend some time looking through everything anyway, so having some sort of direction with the games here will be more... organized. Perhaps a mini-quiz like Moon suggested. Perhaps the mini-quiz hosted by the Colors characters can be grouped into various aspects of the TCG, one on trading/sketchpads, mastering, leveling up, etc. So like the Colors characters could be "teaching" them about the TCG with that, like um... Kou-kun teaching everyone about trading idk, "Hey everyone, Kou-kun here, and I'm gonna teach you everything you need to know about trading and earn cards along the way, so let's get to it! First, we gotta learn the basics of trading..." and can throw in questions like what Moon said "How many cards must you trade before you can fill up a sketchpad?" "Where does the sketchpad go when you've filled it up?" and let them know that if they get the answer right, they can get so many cards as a reward. Something like that!

2) Echoing Moon's suggestion for a poll and I do like the shopping street idea too. *_* Perhaps can incorporate that for purchasing other privileges (for life or for the next month or something... like maybe we did for Twist Serve and buying tennis players but uh... it doesn't have to be permanent, only temporary and there can be a limit on how much you can buy/have at the same time, etc)

And I shall look on Day 14! *forgot about that*

I'm going to go ahead and catch up with Art Studio while we all try to figure out who wants to take it.
That and I want to get my cards for an epic chain mastery type thing. *Greedy*

Admittedly it's not my favorite, but when I'm in the swing of updating Colors things it isn't too big of a deal to take care of it, so I would be able to take it without a problem time-wise.

Epic chain masteries ftw. :3 I'm trying to catch up on updating my post and all at the moment, but it's taking me longer than ever because of me dealing with stuff all over the place here, so I didn't want to jump into taking Art Studio (otherwise I would T-T). Glad that Aru did :D
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on July 19th, 2011 12:52 pm (UTC)
Crosswords 27 sure makes me hungry. :3;

I'm not sure who will be taking over Art Studio, but it sounds like Skie has taken care of it for the short-term. Does no one like Art Studio? |D;;

1) You can still do it for your next Crosswords! I don't think there'll be too much conflict. I love the story tone with the example you gave with Kou-kun. :D

2) A special deck suggestion pool + poll will be a bit easier to run than the shopping street idea, so that'll probably happen first. XD; The shopping street idea I thought would be fun since it'd put a slightly different spin on the privilege idea.

Thanks for the suggestions. :D
[identity profile] disutansu.livejournal.com on July 21st, 2011 02:59 am (UTC)
I would normally jump at taking anything but at the moment, I'm re-dealing with a lot of stuff again, getting all worn out (most stressful summer everrr) so I didn't want to take too much into my own hands just yet... hoping the others would have a chance to get to do more things too. :D

1) I shall then~ Have to pick and choose what to include into the Crosswords <3

2) *nods* I think the pool/poll can happen first while we work out the kinks and stuff with the shopping street. It'll be fun either way and getting more special decks yay! :D

GAMES
Conan's Clues 51
Conan's Clues 52
Costume Party 41

I'll be taking over Costume Party which will move to Mondays and Pokeradar which moves to Sundays, I hope that's okay!

1. I agree that doing some kind of welcome party would definitely benefit new players, I've been the Colors mentor a few times since I joined so I can't forget that it's quite hard for new players to do most stuff... and they tend to get lost in all the options Colors has to offer. I've been thinking of typing up a tutorial post for some time now, I guess I'll get to it tomorrow... How about a biweekly game that would list, for example 20 random cards and low leveled players would be able to take up to three? They would comment with which ones they are taking and just add them to their card posts. The cards would be randomized again after a week passes.It would work so one card could be claimed by more than one person. I hope I am making sense here? I can explain it again if I'm not, I'm quite tired as I've just returned from a con...

Another idea for helping out new players I have is rewarding members for gifting cards to low-leveled players? Something like a permanent post where people could claim rewards for generosity:
gift one card to a new player - 1 random card
gift three cards to a new player - 1 choice card

2. I think I suggested something like the randomized special deck ideas once? I really like the shopping street idea, but what would be the currency? Cards or some points? I've discussed something like this with [livejournal.com profile] ratiosu on the anon meme before so I have some ideas concering this but I'd love to hear how it's supposed to look like before I spam you with my thoughts on yaoi!
lucathia: fishbones: pink[personal profile] lucathia on July 19th, 2011 01:22 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the games! Moving those games to those days is entirely fine!

1) A tutorial! That'll be all kinds of wonderful, and players can even consult that to help with whatever these new player games might turn out to be. Hm, you make sense with the biweekly game suggestion (I understand what you're saying!) though I was thinking more along the lines of games that we'll post once and just leave like that. :3;; It would feel a little weird to me if we have long term games that we post biweekly that exclude older players, but perhaps it would allow players who can't play the game to see who claimed which cards... so that might help facilitate some trades? Hm.

Rewarding members for gifting cards to low-leveled players would be nice though. I see people doing it already, but perhaps having an extra reward would prompt even more people to do it. I always like to see people gifting or trading right away with new players!

2) I think you did! For the shopping street idea, I was thinking cards as I wasn't planning on something too elaborate, and I don't want to conflict with PoG too much as we already have players completing tasks for that. Stuff that players can buy would also not be super elaborate privileges either but rather small things that I'm hoping players would need to weigh and decide if it's worth it or not to spend cards on that! I know that adopting a character/ability cards/and such were discussed before, but I didn't keep a very close eye on that. It's been done in a few TCGs before. I hope we can put our own spin on it!
aru[personal profile] magaru on July 19th, 2011 09:30 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking about something coverying every aspect of the game + the unofficial stuff like First mastery or Double Mastery and some tips like how to organize a card post or how to offer slots... I've seen people having trouble with the smallest details so I'd like to answer as many possible questions as I can... and I need to remember about proper punctuation orz

Well, games like Go Fish kind of exclude the new players since it's much much harder to play with 100 cards than with 2000 cards... Also, an idea for incorporating older players into the game - every round has a thread where older players can comment and say what they might want from the new player pile. Then a new player can pick the card for the older player and they would trade... I remember how hard it was to initiate trades when I was a new player so this could help.

When I was discussing the character adoption with [livejournal.com profile] ratiosu, I brought up the idea to adopt Colors characters but make the abilities randomly given out and tradeable... I think I've mentioned this before? This way the OVERPOWER factor will be balanced a little... Shall I explain it better or does this make enough sense?

Suggestions / Ideas
Responses to Suggestions / Etc:
Asobot Initiative: I actually think it could be pretty grand to have donations to the Initiative become a permanent PoG task for a very simple reason: If seven PoGs in a row have "Donate 3 cards to AI" as a task and a player does all seven, they will have donated 21 cards and will thus get a mastery. It pays off slowly, but it does pay off. That is, of course, assuming they only donate the bare minimum. I think it's a wonderful way of bringing players in!

New Player Events: Ohho, VERY yes. An idea comes to mind for one of these New Player games, actually. It implements the round-robin concept that many players seemed to like the idea of, too. The game would start by allowing a low-level player to choose two participating Mods (or volunteers from the community) from a list (or we use a randomizer?) and then proceeds to play out a story using cards that they have. The low level player would only have to use a small amount of cards, but they could challenge the Mods to use anywhere from 2 to 8 cards in their responses. After the story has successfully gone on for 3 player replies, the player gets a reward. I, for one, would be all for being a participating Mod in a game like this because it'd give the opportunity to be creative all the time. This could actually be one of the "open forever" games instead and could allow any players to participate. But I definitely would love to see the aspect of getting Mods and Players to interact based on player choice OR random choice.

Card Gifting + Reward Post: This was mentioned above and it's actually a nice alternative to the Art Studio. However I feel that it would have to be handled through the Art Studio and players would have to choose between their methods of gaining choice cards. Too many choice card grabbing opportunities would make it too easy for higher-level players. However with this as an alternative, we could limit the number of cards flowing into Recycled Art by allowing many of those cards to go to New Players. As an added incentive, perhaps players who donate 12 cards to new players to get 4 choice cards (the current Art Studio monthly limit) are permitted to donate 3 more cards to get 1 more choice card? Meaning that if you throw your cards into Recycled, you don't get as large of a reward. But if you help new players, you help yourself.

New Player Mini Quiz: This was explained and stated above and I feel that it's an epic idea, actually. I support this! I also think that a question relating to the Cain03 4koma is absolutely required because of how much of a cult hit that card has become. I'd even be willing-- No. I am 100% going to write my next fanfic about Cain03. It will be amazing. I intend to make the fic able to enlighten new players about the amazing thing that is Cain03.

Shopping Street: Would you like to enlist the help of the recently created group of Colors Character Roleplayers (http://colors-rp.livejournal.com/259.html)? Would this shopping street be open all the time, or would it come and go randomly every month like Scrapbook?

Special Deck Pool: I *love* this idea. I think that it would be best to allow both player votes and random opportunities. So perhaps, after a certain number of special deck suggestions have been gathered, have the randomizer pick out two of them... and then post the rest of the list for players to vote on. Then two more are chosen from the "popular vote". So this would allow four in total. Alternatively it could be 1:1 (2 total) or 3:3 (6 total) depending on how many special decks we'd like.
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on July 19th, 2011 01:36 pm (UTC)
Re: Suggestions / Ideas
Asobot Initiative: I'm not opposed to this idea, though it would mean we'd have two permanent PoG tasks. The art/fic one is already a permanent task! You should discuss this with Chikky!

New Player Events: I think you'll need to describe this game to me some more. I'm confused. Do players use up their cards? Because new players have very little cards to play with... I feel this game would be a bit too challenging!

Card gifting: Bringing in Art Studio with the card gifting idea is interesting. That might be workable.

New player quiz: It sounds like this quiz is a go. Perhaps I'll start a post where we start brainstorming ideas?

Shopping street: I would love to enlist the help of Colors characters, though not all of them are mods, so that makes things a little harder. =P I was thinking it would just be one post, though it would be so much more epic of it spanned more than that... but that's too much, I think. =P It would be something that comes and goes randomly.

Special deck pool: Four total is a good number! And I think having random chosen and then having voting happen (or maybe the other way around?) should do the trick of allowing popular ideas and possibly less popular ideas to have a chance.
[identity profile] perarduaadast.livejournal.com on July 19th, 2011 08:06 pm (UTC)
Re: Suggestions / Ideas
@ Asobot Initiative: Totally going to harass Chikky about it.

@ New Player Events: Oh absolutely no. The new players wouldn't lose any of their cards; they'd just have the opportunity to use them in a story. ie: They start the story with:

"There were once seven Image who all sought a single, ultimate Mech."

...and then they could tag two mods and ask them to tag with 4 cards each. The first mod would make some kind of story tag, and then the second mod would, and then the player would tag again. And it'd cycle around until a certain point where the player received their cards in a specifically marked reply that told them it was their reward.

Just kind of a silly idea to implement the use of cards for their names.

@ New Player Quiz: That'd be pretty awesome! :]

@ Other stuff: The power is in your hands!

1) I love this ♥ When you first join a game that's been going on for a while, it's kind of intimidating. Especially such a large one, like Colors. This could ease people into it, get them used to how everything is run. I'll probably have more... constructive thoughts on this once I get some sleep in me. ;;
2) Yes, yes, yes~ A bimonthly or trimonthly thing, perhaps? People could buy certain themed sets of cards or random packs- or all the Colors characters could even have little mini-packs after themselves~ Buying a themed pack from Mikan-tan would give you __ amount of random orange cards, while you'd get red from Akai-san, and so on. Then with the color-neutral characters (Shirocchi and Kurocchi), they could sell the general random packs? Something like that!
Another thought is buying special 'abilities' that would last until the next Shopping Street or however long? Things such as two extra cards from the release (usual release rules still applying), or a free-pass for a weekly or a biweekly game (given something to identify the purchase or just link to it, receive rewards without knowing the answer, or given the answer?)
I'd be willing to help out in any way with it, since I think it's a neat little addition. Not as a permanent post or something routine, but every now and then would be fun.

I also like the idea of having some kind of special deck pool in those months where it's not a reward (that section of the release kind of feels bare during those times). Random is better, I feel, or maybe people can vote or "second" an idea and it gets an extra ballot in the randomizer?

I have yet to comment on this particular one myself, oops! But I do use this to check in with people, so try to comment in a timely manner. XD; It looks like Spare Parts 46 was posted after July 15th, so be sure to include that round with your next mod pay!

Thanks for picking up Host Club! :) LJ is hating everyone at the moment. I hope this stops soon. I just passed out some donation rewards for decks... and that was painful with much refreshing needed... I don't think I will be tackling any of my other posts at the moment if this keeps up. >__>

Thank you for your thoughts on the extra stuff! :D The themed packs is a great idea. *___*
