Mod Pay August 1-August 15
My days are passing by way too quickly. It's already August 15!

Mod pay

Please comment with what you've done between the August 1st to August 15th period to receive your mod pay. List permanent posts first and then games. If you covered for anyone, let me know the dates or games you covered.

Signatures

I've received a few questions about Signatures during this time, so here's some clarification for mods!

1. Signatures can only be traded for signatures, and members can only trade their own signatures. If you see someone trading signatures for cards or vice versa, please refer them to the Signature page on the website that clarifies this matter.

2. Members cannot ask for signatures as a choice card from Levels or Masteries. At the moment, the only way members can acquire signatures is through crayons of the color of their Signature's borders or through using the Art Studio. If someone asks for their Signature as a choice card, please ask them to choose another card instead.

Currently, Signatures is the only deck considered a "special" deck, which means the rewards for it should be different. I'll be adding in what the rewards should be, so keep an eye out for that over at Masteries! (If anyone has mastered a Signature deck, please adjust their rewards).

Games and Game Prizes

Since we have a lot more decks now and sometimes we miss out on posting a round of a game (or two), if you feel your game should give out higher prizes, you can consider upping the rewards your game gives out by a bit (though crayons should still be kept out of most prizes~).

I also think it'd be a good idea to introduce a few more weekly games. We have a lot of games with a good balance between weekly and biweekly, but biweekly games probably make players feel like there aren't a lot of games? Anyway, the point is, if you feel you can run another game AND you have a suggestion for one, please let us know about it~. Or, if you only have suggestions, toss them out and maybe someone will take them on!

Levels
Lucius mentioned having to move. I don't know if I'll still be receiving a Levels report, but the last one I received was on August 1 that ended with Siouxsie leveling up to yellow. [livejournal.com profile] eternalkanda, do you think you can give me an update this week, or do you need someone to cover that?

First the usual,
two rounds of Guess the Color
http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/39105.html
http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/40704.html

and one round of Izaya's Information Exchange
http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/44252.html

And then I also took over for Kuri and posted a round of Seiyuu Guess
http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/43014.html

What I've noticed about games is how all the biweekly games are always posted in the same week so sometimes it feels like theres a long time between games, maybe? xD
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on August 16th, 2010 01:09 am (UTC)
Probably true about the biweekly games! Mostly everyone started during the same week after all. I don't play any of the games that are screened (I only played the first rounds) so I'm not sure how much cards everyone usually gets. But then, not everyone plays all the games, so... *shrugs*
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on August 18th, 2010 08:39 am (UTC)
You're so consistent. o/ I think I said this last time too. Have an extra crayon (and some cards) for your consistency and for covering Kuri's game!

Did Joining and Art shop. I'm on another stupid break because school shiz is getting me down D: I seem to be a bit better today since I went out;;;

Week behind on games =A='' So I don't pay for the games :/ I'll get the prizes out either later tonight or tomorrow or maybe Tuesday since I'll be alone u.u

I'll get my act together when I actually have a schedule to work on...if I get back into school;;;

I need a sad icon....;A;
lucathia: fishbones: red[personal profile] lucathia on August 16th, 2010 01:51 am (UTC)
That icon is fairly sad already! I hope things will start looking better for you. Best of luck with the school business. I'm kind of in a bit of depression myself, and some comments in this TCG aren't helping. Too much for me to attend to at the moment!

I think you are doing fine. Just let us know if you need someone to step in, or if you need to take a longer break. Keeping us informed is good. If you feel like you have too many responsibilities, we can reassign some, so that's another option.

More games
I was waiting for this! When I saw the comment [livejournal.com profile] fire_senshi left on General Suggestions, I also began thinking up of new games ideas. Sad to say, I haven't come up with anything original, just the same old things that other TCGs already have. Also, I'd be more than happy to take on more games other than the ones I'm currently modding! Art Studio is pretty slow, and Signatures is pretty dependent on joining [[and less new people are joining anyway, so yeah]], so if you need someone to take on new games, I'm more than game to do it. :D

-A Guess The Mecha game! I already even have a name for it: Spare Parts
-A Word Scrambler game. Back at Anime LJ TCG, we were supposed to unscramble anime/game/manga titles. Nothing wrong with that, though I think it'd be fun to have themes which the scrambled words could revolve around, like what Kuri did with her One Piece-themed Crosswords. Or we could have names of shounen anime protagonists. That sort of thing.
-A Monthly Challenge activity. Over at another TCG, the owner would give a list of tasks, and members were supposed to complete 5 tasks of their choosing to earn rewards. It could be something simple like "refer a member!", "max out your donations for this month!", "have three cards of a certain deck in your post!" or something slightly more challenging like "master a deck of a particular color!", "earn a certain-color crayon from Beauty Pageant!", "complete 3 sketchpads in this month!". Something to that effect! I'll keep thinking of something more original though. ;;

That said, I also really like [livejournal.com profile] fire_senshi's idea of blackjack and lottery. I think we have a good number of trivia games as it is, so maybe this time, we could have more games based on luck, or is less trivia-based.

lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on August 16th, 2010 02:19 am (UTC)
Mm, the next mod pay is on the 31st. As long as you remember what you've claimed already...

Spare Parts is a cool name! Your names are all so original. |D I'm fairly clueless about mecha (I usually avoid mecha series...), but other people might do well at this game. I'd like to consider non-knowledge games first though. :3 (But hey, if you have any color or art themed game suggestions, that would be even cooler~)

In my experience with word scrambler games...many people find it too hard or too time consuming. There were less and less answers with each round. Themed would be cool though, since that'd focus the area the words come from, which might make the game a little easier.

Monthly challenges are cool! I liked having monthly games, but that kind of fell on the wayside the longer I ran my other TCG because they take a lot of time to plan. =/ I think I have enough on my hands with the monthly contests and the releases for the moment. Challenges are worth considering though, and maybe doable if they're not too involved. Hm, maybe we can come up with a new checklist each month that members can grab and fill in?

I looked over [livejournal.com profile] fire_senshi's ideas. Something like lottery is doable, but the other two sound a bit too involved for long term games since they would require the mod to comment back...which would be doable for small TCGs, but we have quite a number of players here. It's a good idea to have more non-knowledge based games though.

Other mods have also commented with some game suggestions if you want to take a look. :3

Ohh, I totally missed that note about Signatures! I'm glad you reminded us that we can only trade them for other ones ;3; I haven't done any other types of trades yet, thankfully, so I'm fine!! *almost dies*

Permanent posts: I've been covering Art Shop for Kuri for a little while (starting on Page 17 (http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/1739.html?page=17#comments)). I've answered just over 35 comments! The Art Shop sure does move fast XD

Weekly games:
Poke Radar 10/11 (http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/45207.html) (I missed one week, so this is a double round. However, it is still only one post~ I don't feel I should get mod pay for a week that I missed, but I suppose it's your discretion!)

Biweekly games:
Beauty Pageant 06 (http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/45031.html)
Graffiti 06 (http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/44562.html)

I love when my games fall exactly on modpay day. XD They wouldn't have if I hadn't switched my posting days, though!

Masteries:

Around 47 decks were mastered this time:

Ryoga's Directions 6: http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/43631.html#cutid1

Conan's Clues 7: http://community.livejournal.com/colors_tcg/43814.html

About helping card circulation ( xD ) : I saw that poké radar is a double round this time because Eri missed a round. And I thought if it's okay I could make double rounds for my weekly games too? The other weekly games are at round 10 or 11 already but since I missed two rounds and also started later than the others, I thought it would be good to make double rounds for the next two weeks, so I can catch up.

I think it would definitely be good to help up the cards that are passed out right now. Because between every update there still are 4 weekly and 2 biweekly rounds of the games, but it will steadily get harder to get certain cards. I don't know if I can really express what I mean, but as an example if someone was collecting a new deck... like Venus: Venus only got available at the beginning of August. But the user only has 4 weeks time until the new release comes and more cards are added in. And it goes on and on like that, so if we don't add new games or something, it might become harder in the future (as in too many decks, too few cards that are circulating. But of course we shouldn't make too much, either).

As for games, I do have some things in mind:

- Guess the eyes: Just like it says! XD Cropping the eyes of a manga / anime / game character and letting them guess.

- Guess the duo: Similar to Conan's Clues, a knowledge-based game where hints are given and the members have to guess some kind of duo, be it partners in crime, siblings, a romantic couple etc. For example if it was Renji and Byakuya from Bleach, the descriptions could be something like "the Stray Dog reaching for the Moon" as a title + a few other hints about their appearance and relationship.

- Another guess the character game where you have to recognize them by their silhouettes!

- And then for a change a game that involves the community. I remember that starcrossed game where the black and white pig were racing and you had to pass them on unto members and see which one traveled the longer way during a certain timespan? The participants got something for each time they passed it and a bonus if they finished first or something. And of course, we don't need to necessarily take the monochrome pigs again (though they were cute XD), any two mascots would suffice.

- Easter eggs: This might be a bit tedious and you as the webmaster would have to do it. You could hide a few easter eggs at the homepage; at some decks or info pages, etc. Then make a post and give the clues. XD Like if you hid them at a certain character deck, hint at who he is and all different ways of describing the way.

These are just suggestions... and I'm not sure if anyone would want to moderate these, because I don't think I could take that much more than I already have. I think I could take the one about guessing the duo (these could also be new rounds at Conan's Clues? Right now, it's a mix between giving hints and quotes, but there could be those duo rounds, too?) or the Guess the eyes.

In my mind the silhouettes game would be funny, but I wouldn't be able to moderate it.

I also think Tari's suggestions above sound really cool, especially the monthly challenge. :3
[identity profile] ratiosu.livejournal.com on August 16th, 2010 02:36 am (UTC)
I really like the pig race one! We could have any two mascots, and change colors for each round too, seeing as we have 8 colors to choose from. xD And I like that it involves the whole community too. So far, we don't have any games like that, so I think this could be fun. xD

I know we're gunning for non-trivia games first, but if Laxis' ideas get accepted, I'd so do the Guess the Eyes and/or Guess the Duo. *_* In particular, the latter game sounds a lot more interesting and I haven't seen it done at other TCGs before. C:

You can choose to do double rounds if you'd like, or instead of calling it a double round, just make the rewards higher for that round and keep to the same numbering. There isn't a number you're supposed to be on anyway. ^^;;

Hm, yeah, I was thinking about the amount of cards that go out between updates. But other than games, there are a lot of other ways to earn cards too that most people don't consider. For example, a player can always trade a lot and end up with cards that way because of the sketchpads. So I think we shouldn't introduce too many new games at the moment, but a few (maybe two?) will keep the place lively.

Guess the Eyes sounds doable since the mod running it shouldn't have too much trouble finding material for it.

Hm, Guess the Duo sounds cool! I think you can incorporate it into Conan's Clues as special rounds?

Silhouettes would look cool...though it'd take some graphic/drawing skills, wouldn't it?

Haha, I tried out the racing game with Twist Serve. It was fun, but it didn't really work with different time zones, and it basically required people to be able to go online in a certain period. -____-;; Maybe we can do it as some kind of event...but not as a permanent game? Or maybe once every month. Some other mascot would be cool. :3 I'm not sure what.

Easter eggs. XD; I don't feel like hiding anything, haha. I'd hide them and probably never get around to taking them down. But this is a good idea for an event.

I am amazed at how people are able to go online away from home! So resourceful! *__* I'll be passing out modpay once I calculate what everyone should get.

For a silhouette game, the only thing I'm concerned about is the silhouette itself. It'd take some drawing skills, right? And many pictures don't translate to silhouettes very well. (...I tried to imitate those iPod ads before with the silhouettes, and it took me a long time to find a good picture to make a silhouette of). But if you're able to come up with silhouettes, this would be a cool game.

[identity profile] vriska.livejournal.com on August 16th, 2010 02:51 am (UTC)
And now for an unrelated comment about games (since I'm showered now and can think much more clearly XD)!

I really think having more weekly games would be a great idea! It does seem to me like we don't have enough games, for some reason- which is weird, because we do! No less than most website-run TCGs, anyway.

A few ideas:
-General guess the anime/manga/series: We don't have any games like this, do we? Of course, it's another trivia game, so we probably don't need any more games like this. Plus, they're either too easy or too hard. XD

- A "Crazy Eights" type game- I just like trying to think of game ideas using the cards themselves XD This one would be kind of difficult, though, because you would have to pay really close attention to other people's comments. The game mod would start the round by posting one random card, and people respond by giving up one of their cards that's either the same color, or the next number up/down. You lose the card, but gain two random cards (like in Information Exchange), and you could post up to twice per round to make it somewhat beneficial. All the cards could go back to Recycled Art, too. It'd be fun- I might even be able to run it!

I think I might be able to handle one more weekly game, but it would have to be a fairly easy one and I'd have to post in on a different day than the rest of my games. Like the middle of the week, maybe? I think I can handle one easy game before I go to work one day. (Maybe I'll think about it some more and pick from the suggestions in the end, haha.)

I also think that maybe having some more monthly games or activities would be a good idea! The monthly activities that Tari suggested are a great example ♥ Another similar idea would be to do something like those Quests (http://community.livejournal.com/anime_lj_tcg/559854.html) they started up at anime_lj_tcg right before it closed. I really liked those quests because they were themed and really specific; you kind of had to go out of your way for them, but you had a whole month to do them and it was fun x3

A caption contest would also be a fun idea, but the only problem with that is that it would have to be another game we would have to vote on. I guess it wouldn't be a problem if the person running it didn't mind!

I don't know how well this idea would work, but I've seen it done at another TCG- basically, there will be a grid with a large number of squares (50 or so) and players can spend 2-3 cards to pick a square. They get whatever prize is underneath- it's sort of Pick a Color on a much larger scale. Some of the prizes could be really good, like choice cards or crayons, but there could be some with nothing (or just really small prizes) as well. Also, no two people can pick the same square, so once it's gone, it's gone. And you could pick up to once per week. It'd have to be planned in advance, which is why I said it might not be that good, but it'd be pretty fun- another source of cards for Recycled Art, too.

... I think this is a really long comment, so I'll stop XD I love planning TCG games, though!
lucathia[personal profile] lucathia on August 16th, 2010 03:24 am (UTC)
More wonderful ideas! XD

I completely thought I'd be seeing something like a game everyday, but I guess since half the games are biweekly, it doesn't feel that way at all. The amount of games we have is actually quite a lot already, but then, not everyone is able to play all of them, so a few more won't hurt. But only as long as the mods are able to run more!

We don't have any general guess the series games. It's quite funny. XD; Ryoga's directions was supposed to be something like that, but it morphed into a scenery/location game instead? *scratches head* But guess the series is done so often. Surely we can be more original. XD

Hm, the crazy eights game sounds cool and doable! The mod would only have to post one card to start things off, right? I guess the only problem would be if someone posted something wrong. I suppose either that person would just not get rewards for that (if someone continues off that wrong direction) or the next person should correct the mistake and just ignore that if they see it. Hm.

You already have a lot of games, so only take on more if you feel you can do it~ (and if you ever feel it's too much, it's all right to pass the game on!)

Monthly games are a good idea. I'll have to leave it to someone else to plan them though if anyone is up for something on the monthly scale. :3

Hm, yeah, more voting. We already have a monthly designing contest that requires voting. :3 (And on a tangent, I am going to bring in writing for the Colors characters, though I'm thinking a general contribution post instead of a contest would work better for that since we'll already have established designs for the Colors characters for everyone to base their writing off of. I'd also like to have more fanart of the characters, so maybe an open fanart post...) But back to captions, that might be fun. We could always have different kinds of contests.

That does sound like Pick a Color on a grand scale. XD;

Out of all of these, I like the Crazy Eights idea the best!

How does Shiritori (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiritori) sound?

Each round will revolve around a general theme, so for example, the mod decides that our theme for this round is magic, and then everyone will have to reply with words to do with magicians, magic attacks, magical artefacts from anime/games/manga. Or 'Openings and Endings' - then everyone now have to do song titles instead.

One thing to address is the rules - Japanese shiritori and English shiritori have different rules, but if we're to introduce this game here, obviously some standardization will have to be made. In the first place, since this TCG deals with anime and manga, players may think of using Japanese words - should they be included or is there a good case to support otherwise? And if Japanese words are included, do we want to use the last syllabus [which may not work so well for everyone], the last vowel, or the last consonant in the word? That kind of thing.

Two ways we could go about doing it:
-The mod starts off with one word, and players make their own word chains. The longer their chain, the more prizes they earn. Maybe the winner with the longest chain could get a crayon? Answers will be screened until the end of the round.

-The mod starts off with one word to get the ball rolling, and one player replies with the second word, followed by a second player who replies to the first player, a third player replying to the second player etc. Everyone who participates and carries the chain along earns prizes. As long as you don't end up replying to yourself, you can chain as many times as you want. There will probably be a limit to the max amount of prizes being passed out.

Personally, I like the second way better - more community involvement, and Shiritori isn't a game to be played alone anyway! Though I guess that would mean more work for the mod running it because they would have to make sure that the order is correct, and with players eager to reply to games, that could turn out to be a problem. So much for non-knowledge games, all the ideas I could come up with all require some amount of knowledge and/or googling. ^^;;

Sounds fun. :3

The second way sounds more like the actual game to me...making chains all by ourselves (the first way) doesn't seem very fun. But you're right...there needs to be some rules in place. I'm not sure what we'd do with Japanese. We probably can't go the last syllable way since that doesn't work with English words very well, and not everyone knows that much Japanese...going with whatever the last letter is would probably be the most straightforward?

I used to play a Chinese version of this all the time. ;)

Haha, wow, Recycled Art is practically empty! Except for the Asobot cards...I wonder if we should have some kind of expiration on the cards? But maybe someone will eventually claim them.

I could help out with planning Quests... I don't really have any games so it'd be kind of easier for me, I think anyways~
